Ask Mr. Hot or Not - Graduation Makeup
Here’s a letter from a reader I got quite recently.
“I’ve searched many sites now…I have a teen daughter about to have graduation…my question-how do apply glitter eye makeup, darker blue and silver eyeliner(especially that)she picked herself..has brown eyes and tanned complexion, have some idea-but stuck on the eyeliner..above the lid or below? thanks for any tips….”
Since I don’t know the consistency of the silver eyeliner, I’m going to leave a few tips and you can make a few tryouts to see which is more in sync of what your daughter would like.
If it’s a liquid eyeliner that has a “stay-put” finish, I’d advise you to keep it only on the lid and stay away from the under-eye area. If it allows to be worked, then I’d apply very sparingly on the lower eye area and smudge it mixing it with the darker blue shade, focusing specially on the inner eye area, making her eyes pop.
Try and create a dark blue smokey eye and mix in the silver eyeliner at the base of the lashes, not making it overly defined and just adding a bit more glamor to the eye makeup.
Since it’s graduation makeup, prime her eyelid with Urban Decay Primer Potion or a MAC Shadestick, either will prolong the eyeshadow wear and enhance the colors.
If you’re comfortable applying false eyelashes, giver her look that extra “oomph” that could make all the difference.
With a tanned complexion, make the most of a cream blush or a NARS Multiple stick to contour her face, keeping it natural and luminous.
Another alternative is using MAC’s Iridescent Loose Powder in Silver Dusk just as highlighter on her cheek bones, brow bone, temples and nose bridge.
I would keep the lips unlined and natural in a neutral beige shade topped off with some complimentary lip gloss for that classic sixties lip feel.
Thanks for the e-mail and hope this helped, if not e-mail me again, just include what the products are that you’re using and I can give a more complete answer.
