Guys and Makeup - What to wear?
Today’s view on men’s grooming needs and cosmetics have surely changed and we are thankful and slowly the market offers more and more choices for men who want to be introduced to the mesmerizing world of cosmetics.
Clinique now offers a concealer in their Men’s line, Bobbi Brown recommends her Eye Brightener for men and of course Jean Paul Gaultier created a whole line of men’s makeup for those who aren’t restricted to society’s older ways and Studio5ive offers even more choices strictly for men.
I personally think it’s great, a bit of concealer and tinted moisturizer goes a long way when I have a presentation to make or an official event and since I suffer from perpetual dark circles I avoid the “Oh, you look tired, are you ok?” remark on a daily basis.
So, if you are a man and want to start wearing makeup or if you want your man to start wearing makeup, here are a few tips:
Avoid any shimmery finishes of cosmetics at all costs, matte bronzer, matte powder are good choices to either give you a more healthier look or even out your complexion without looking too made up. If you’re going for a bronzer, then by all means select a shade that is closest to the tone you get when you’re tanned. A darker bronzer on a pale complexion will make it look muddy and/or dirty, likewise a lighter bronzer will either make no difference or make you look ashy.
Concealers should be one shade lighter than your skin tone if you have dark circles or the exact color of your skin tone if you have puffy eyes, also avoid hard full coverage concealer that is hard to blend in since the goal here is to become as natural as possible. Opt for moisturizing formulas and always apply them over eye cream.
Opt for tinted moisturizers instead of full-fledge foundation, they’ll let your skin shine throw and since you won’t be using eyeshadow or blush, a full coverage product would give you a washed out look.
Gel mascaras are the best option when it comes to your lashes, not only are most of them multi-purpose and you can use them to groom your eyebrows, a light tint will enhance your eyelashes without making them surreal looking (sorry guys, no Lash Queen) and will make your eyes pop. Wear black if you have dark brown/black hair or brown if you’re brown haired or blond.
A slightly tinted lip balm in the shade of your lip color looks great and makes your lips looking soft and kissable, if you’re more daring apply a bit of gloss just to the center of your lips and gives you a sexy pout.
If you’re going out and want to make your gaze look more mysterious, a carefully smudged kohl liner will make you look like that mysterious stranger in movies and TV shows, just avoid taking the Johnny Depp look to the office.
Hopefully this made all the guys out there slightly more curious, so if anyone has any questions or suggestions, feel free to comment or e-mail me.
