Something borrowed, something blue…
Instead of creating two different articles for two very similar collections, I decided to compare both of them and leave the choice up to you.
Almost simultaneously, MAC and Laura Mercier launched blue inspired collections, respectively named Blue Storm and Stormy. Both consist in blue/gray tones of eyeshadow, Kohl eyeliners and lipsticks… coincidence? Maybe…
On MAC’s side, they released 5 new eyeshadows, ranging from royal blue, teal, purple, gray and black with blue pearl in their individual color. Out of all the colors, only Cloudburst (black with blue pearl, velvet finish), Cumulus (creamy grey with silver pearl, frost finish) and Thunder (rich blue with purple pearl, frost finish) really caught my fancy as I am not usually a blue person (only blue jeans, which I obsess quite often), Laura Mercier introduced two quads, one of black, blue and gray (Blue Sky) and the other of deep gray, purple and neutral pink (Storm Cloud), of which I would definitely pick Storm Cloud, being the neutral addict that I am.
On the eyeliner side, both collections present us with Khol pencils. While MAC embarks on two new shades for their Power Kohl pencils in a deep rich black with a frost finish (Feline) and a black with teal and frost finish (Mystery) while Laura Mercier presents 3 Kohl pencils with pearl finish with Black with Gold, Navy and Turquoise finishes. I’d probably get them all, except Mystery and Black Turquoise, quite honestly. But, you can see the resemblance in finish and concept.
For a little bit of lip that’s where things slighly differ, MAC goes full gloss with three pink/purple shades in Tinted Lipglasses, while Laura Mercier opts for nudes in pinkish browns, beiges and neutral pinks in three Lip Color - Creme finish.
If at first I was surprised with Laura Mercier not hopping on the smoky eye bandwagon, it’s clear that they opted to divide their fall collection in two distinctive looks, one in shades of green and warmer tones pretty much like Chanel’s fall collection and the other going for the blue/cold toned with the smoky eye approach.
As for MAC, they have so many collections this year, they don’t need any reason, now do they?
Apart from the eyeliners, nothing reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally seduces me here, but like I mentioned, I’m not much of a blue person.
